Mom has seen our immediate area go from fields to new trails as the farms are being bought up by housing developments. While we love all the trails, it is kind of sad to see the rural feeling disappear. Behind us after the pond was all fields until maybe six or eight years ago when they started to build townhomes.
Walking at sunrise makes photos with the phone a challenge but we did our best. This is the newest trail we have tried. It goes behind a single family neighborhood on one side and a farm on the other. I am old enough that I used to practice tracking in the fields certain times of the year, but now it is just homes.
Here is a better view of the farm. They also have a lot of cows…which we can smell when the wind blows from the south. It is only a matter of time most likely until the cows and pasture are all gone.
Here is a better look at the farm. There are several farms on the same road owned by one family. They seem to be selling it off slowly. Despite feeling like all the land in the US is being developed, we notice when we drive on our road trips how much land is still out there and it is a good thing.
Another fairly new trail runs along a stream and swampy area. The bridge connects the single family homes to the townhomes. Even though the farmland is gone, we are happy they are working hard to leave lots of natural areas for all the creatures that depend on such areas. That’s a quick snapshot of what is happening to the nature in our area.
I’m joining my friends at Living Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard for their Nature Friday blog hop.
