Happy 4th of July Eve to all! In my time out and about recently, I found a few things for America’s birthday that I thought I would share with you. If you think I look like Mr 4th of July himself check out this.
When we were in Rockford, Illinois a couple weeks ago we came across the real Mr. 4th of July. We had never heard of him so we read about him. Since we figure most of you don’t know about him, I’ll fill you in. The words below come straight from the plaque here on the statue and he looks ready for the 4th with his fireworks.
Joe Marino “Mr. 4th of July”. A lifelong Rockford resident and beloved civic leader who championed community celebrations and festivals for half a century. His leadership inspired generations of local children and adults to enthusiastically embrace their American values of love, honor and service to their city, country and families. Park dedicated July 4, 2010, Joe Marino Park.
Speaking of fireworks, it will be a nightmare for us this weekend. Please, if you feel the need to set off boomers, respect others. Don’t do it all night long, refrain from the ones that shake our house, and really, it isn’t necessary during the entire daytime. Maybe set them all off on the fourth since it is the holiday, Friday and Sunday are not necessary. Bailie is terrified and Olivia has dealt with a few loud booms this past week and is getting scared too. Mom and I can only do so much for my terrified sisters. Think how the wild animals and birds feel, and people with PTSD. I will now step off my soap box.
Remember the big construction project up the street I posted about last month? All the fun big machines? Well, this week they are honoring America when they are not working. We saw this flag flying the other morning.
Yesterday morning on the other side of the project we found another flag. What a nice company to honor America’s 250th birthday! Enjoy your holiday weekend, stay safe, and respect others if you must set off fireworks.
I’m joining my friends at Living Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard for their Nature Friday blog hop.
