Meet adoptable deaf, two year old, Australian Cattle Dog Gigi, who is looking for a loving and safe home.
Backstory:
– My bachelor buddy had his 3rd stroke in 2 years. Lost function on his Left side and can no longer care for this sweet girl.
– He got her as a puppy and ended up home all day for the most part because he had his first stroke shortly after he got her.
– I fostered her for 4 months while he was in a nursing home and I can tell you what she was like before, and after being with us and has typical heeler traits.
– He is headed back to a nursing home for long term care and is unable to take her with him.
Info:
– Her name is Gigi
– She was spayed and vaccinated in Feb 2026
– She is 2 years old
– She is deaf (she will fool you because she is incredibly observant, but she is definitely deaf)
– She plays with other dogs but is rough and if other dogs are in the home she would enjoy a playful job. My dogs are older and did not enjoy playing with her but my friends large Husky played well with her
– I have 2 cats, and she changed one that would run away, but my older cat wasn’t scared of her and she did not mess with him at all.
– Leash trained
– Crate trained while she was with us, but definitely prefers not to be in there longer that 4-6 hours max.
I did not work with a trainer. I was assertive with her and she learned 5 basic hand signals, but she was more attentive while she wore the e collar (we called it her ears). She would hang out with my husband in the garage for a couple hours a day and enjoyed it.
She is a sweet girl that definitely needs a lot of attention.
-She would love to have her own fenced in back yard to run, play and fetch her ball.
– She loves to fetch, but still takes a little bit to drop the ball (if you use two balls, show her the second ball, ask for a “drop” then throw the second ball she will improve)
– She absolutely loves to play tug of war
If you’re still with me and you the she might be a wonderful addition to your home, I would love to share more stories. She is a typical blue heeler so I would love somebody that is familiar with the cattle dog temperament.
