September is National Dog Ownership Month! We thought we would show you ways you can celebrate that are good for your pup and you as well.
Good food is very important, just as it is for humans. We eat a raw and single ingredient diet but there are all kinds of healthy foods for your pup out there. We suggest you avoid that cheap grocery store food but you have to feed your pup whatever works for you and for them.
Exercise is healthy and important for you and your pup. Walking is a wonderful activity for dogs and and their humans. We also enjoy running with Mom. Walking or running helps to keep us fit and it provides mental stimulation.
Grooming is also very important. Some dogs need more attention to their furs than others but you need to be on top of it. Baths, brushing, nail trims, are all part of keeping your pup in good shape.
Dog sports are a real winner as they provide a lot of fun for your dog, they need to learn how to do the sports you choose for them, and it helps build a stronger bond between you and your dog.
Playtime with siblings or friends is a great way to get a pup some exercise. It will also keep them used to being with other dogs and how to behave when playing.
Finally, regular visits to the vet are super important. Keep immunizations up to day, provide heartworm and flea and tick treatments, and do the necessary testing at physicals. Pet insurance is also an option. For us it has come in handy a lot, unfortunately. Find a plan that works for you. We have used ours a lot.
Happy National Dog Ownership Month!
