Golden retrievers and tennis balls just seem to go together.
As a golden retriever dog parent, I have seen how quickly a simple tennis ball can get KB and KENZO’s attention. They love to retrieve them, carry them around, and sometimes act like having just one tennis ball is simply not enough.
If your Golden loves tennis balls too, some of these funny signs may look very familiar.
1. They Know Exactly Where the Tennis Balls Are
You may forget where you put the tennis balls, but your Golden probably does not.
They seem to remember exactly where their favorite balls are stored—and they are always ready when you reach for one.
2. Saying “Ball” Gets an Instant Reaction
Sometimes you do not even need to show them the ball.
Just say “ball” and suddenly you have their complete attention.
Ears up. Eyes focused. Ready to play.
3. They Bring You a Ball While You’re Busy
Working? Eating? Relaxing?
That does not matter to a tennis-ball-loving Golden.
If they are ready for a game of fetch, they may happily bring the ball right to you and wait for you to throw it.
4. They Stare at You Until You Throw It
Golden retrievers can be very good at giving the look.
Ball in front of you. Eyes staring directly at you.
The message is pretty clear:
Are you going to throw that or not?
5. They Already Have One Ball… But Still Want Another
This may be one of my favorite funny golden retriever habits.
They already have a tennis ball in their mouth—but somehow they still want the other one too.
For some Goldens, one tennis ball is simply never enough.
