From her advocate: Meet Somi: Bright, Loving, & Full of Aussie Potential!
Somi is a gorgeous, incredibly clever Double Merle Australian Shepherd puppy with striking eyes and a classic, eager-to-please Aussie spirit. She is fully deaf, but if you didn’t know it, you’d hardly tell! Being deaf doesn’t slow her down one bit she navigates the world with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a whole lot of heart.
Her Story:
I stepped in to foster Somi after taking her in from an acquaintance who acquired her from an accidental litter and couldn’t meet her needs. I wanted to make sure she was safe, happy, and well-cared for while finding her true forever home! She is a typical young Aussie: smart, observant, playful, and deeply attached to her humans. Like any puppy her age, she is working on her house manners, crate routine, and puppy-chewing habits, but her sharp brain makes her a fast learner when given consistent structure.
What She Loves:
Food & Enrichment: Somi is super food-motivated! She loves working on enrichment toys, frozen Kongs, and puzzle feeders.
Outdoors & Socializing: She loves walks, people-watching, and visiting the dog park! She is great with other dogs, and having another friendly dog in the home to learn from would be a huge plus for her.
Being Your Shadow: She loves keeping her eyes on you, staying close to her family, and engaging her mind through visual training cues.
Ideal Home:
Somi would do best in an active household that understands or is excited to learn about herding breed energy!
An active individual or family who enjoys outdoor activities, enrichment games, and structured routines. A home with a yard where she can burn off puppy energy would be amazing.
Patience with confinement & sightlines: Because she is deaf, she experiences some fear of abandonment when her humans are completely out of sight. A home willing to work gently on her confinement/crate confidence will help her feel secure.
A willingness to embrace visual communication: You don’t need any prior experience with deaf dogs at all just a willingness to use hand signals! She is already learning quickly and currently knows cues for Sit, Lay Down, No (finger wag), Yes (thumbs up), and Kennel.

Somi’s adoption fee is $200 to a screened and approved home and you must live within a two hour driving distance of San Antonio, Texas to be considered for her adoption.
