Donny – Shih Tzu puppy boy being fostered in adult home in Gloucestershire with other dogs will be ready at 8 weeks old.
Donny was born with his sister & brother in our care after Bella his mum came to us three weeks before they arrived, giving her time to settle into her foster home and get to know her foster mum.
All three puppies are thriving. Our vet has already checked them and will continue to monitor them as they grow, with no health concerns noted so far. He is a lovely happy little puppy who will be well balanced and cared for before he leaves our care.
What sort of homes are we looking for?
We know these puppies are going to be very popular because, let’s face it, they are ridiculously cute! We will no doubt receive lots of offers of homes, but finding the right homes for puppies is actually much harder.
We are looking for people who have always believed in rescue rather than buying from a breeder and who understand that a puppy is so much more than a cute little teddy bear.
Some people who have always wanted to rescue may actually feel a little guilty about applying for a puppy — please don’t!
We would much rather see a lovely rescue-minded family offer a home to one of these babies than someone who simply wants a puppy because they are cute or because buying one from rescue is cheaper than going to a breeder.
These little ones need homes prepared to put the work in — puppy classes, socialisation, training, plenty of stimulation and proper walks, not just a quick stroll around the park.
They are bright, active, happy little dogs who will grow into real characters and need to be allowed to live a proper dog’s life.
They will have the very best start with us and will be well socialised with people and other dogs. Now comes the important part — finding the right people to continue that work and give them a wonderful life as part of their family.
We will not home puppies with entire dogs. Where there are adult dogs in the home, we will need to be confident that they will be safe around a puppy and will provide a good role model.
As part of their adoption contract, all three puppies will be neutered when old enough. They will also be health checked, microchipped, flea and worm treated and started on their vaccinations before they leave us.
So, we are just putting out the feelers for now. We will update their profiles every week as their characters develop and we get to know what sort of homes will suit each puppy best.
We have put a huge amount of care into giving these little ones the best possible start.
Now starts the hard job of matching them with sensible, committed homes who understand dogs and will carry that work on — giving them the proper dog’s life they deserve.
