Custom dog lead projects are the core of Meg K9. It started a long time ago when people began to ask me to either modify existing products or make something completely bespoke for them.
It can range from making a slightly longer Police Dog Training Lead or creating something from just an idea.
With the latter, customers often approach me with a design already in their head that provides a solution for a problem with their dog walking. Many of the designs unique to Meg K9 began their lives as a problem I needed a solution for, for example the Car Boot Lead designed in 2009 before car seat belt leads were even a thing.
What to realistically expect?
The turn around for single leads is usually no more than 2-3 days, whereas larger projects can take a few days.
In terms of measurements, I try to be exact, but in terms of expectations, allow a couple of centimetres +/- when dimensions have been asked for.
When designs get complex, I always provide a sketch for you to approve. Where needed, measurements, clip types (trigger hooks or carabiners), handle positions, O or D ring positions, colours, widths and embroidery are all stated on the drawing and this is what I work from once approved.
What if you are not 100% happy?
I always say to people, most things can be put right. I say most things, if something is too small or too short, then a re-make might be required at customer cost unless it’s my fault.
Do expect additional hourly charges plus materials for alterations that are not a fault of myself. If it is a misunderstanding or misinterpretation, then a compromise can often be agreed upon.
The Law regarding bespoke products
Due to the personalised and made-to-order nature of a custom dog lead project, returns for change of mind are not accepted in line with Regulation 28(1)(b) of The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. This regulation states that goods made to a customer’s specifications or clearly personalised are exempt from the standard 14-day cancellation and return period that normally applies to online purchases. However, this does not affect a customer’s rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if an item is faulty, not as described, or unfit for purpose.
Also once a project is started, change of mind or refund is as above.
We often choose a more expensive courier with insurance to cover the product, this can be as much as £35.00 or more with larger more expensive orders. We can’t always give a price for shipping if a finished product needs to be weighed and/or is being shipped abroad.
Perfection is my middle name
Rest assured that any work whether it is a custom lead or something you have bought in the online shop, the same level of perfection is assured. However, do consider that by the nature of ‘handmade’ there will be certain imperfections during the making process or beyond my control.
Examples of this are if you buy something made in China, they are produced in factories where bar tacking machines are used, they sew to a set pattern and this does not change from product to product. I use a walking foot industrial sewing machine, which means patterns vary slightly.
