Nelson and I are paired up for walking most of the time. We have about a nine year age difference which has good and bad things for both of us. My first two years I was paired up with Madison most of the time but she was only six years older than me. The two of us get along really well but some things don’t always work well with Nelson being so young and strong and I’m a senior who isn’t as energetic.
Good Points
- I know how to walk nicely on a leash so Nelson can maybe stop dragging us down the road all the time.
- Nelson is learning some more manners from me.
- When I was younger I would lunge and howl at rabbits but I stopped several years ago. Nelson really enjoys lunging and howling at rabbits and I have begun to join him which is fun for me.
- He learns to just ignore other dogs when we are out walking as I just ignore them, unless they happen to be a friend of mind.
Bad Points
- He is super strong and very fast. Twice now he has knocked me flat taking off chasing a rabbit. Mom helped me up and I wasn’t injured but it was scary.
- Nelson is super loud. He loves to howl loudly and proudly for no reason sometimes and I find it embarrassing.
- Being a boy, he likes to stop to pee all the time. I get tired of all the stopping.
- The guy and Mom are fast walkers and I have trouble keeping up with both of them. Sometimes Mom slows down so I can get a break.
Overall, we have a lot of fun walking together. Nelson is always kind to me and never means to knock me over. Both of us enjoy sighting rabbits along the way. It is a good idea having us paired up for most of our walks.
