Meet adoptable deaf 3 year old Ellie who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will cherish her and always keep her safe. Sometimes she does startle so a home with adults only (or older teenagers) would be the best fit for her. She could use some additional positive reinforcement training on desensitizing her startle response (using high value treats).
Ellie is a 3-year-old deaf Catahoula/Husky mix who came to us as an owner surrender due to eviction. Her surrender had nothing to do with her behavior or temperament—her previous owner simply could no longer care for her under the circumstances. Since coming into our care, Ellie has shown herself to be an incredibly loving, affectionate, and well-mannered dog who bonds deeply with her people.
Ellie is attentive, gentle, and eager to connect. She communicates beautifully through visual cues and is currently working with a trainer while in our care. While she is deaf, she is highly responsive, intelligent, and thrives with consistency and structure. Deafness has not slowed her down—it has simply shaped how she experiences the world.
Ellie would do best as the only dog in the home, where she can have her person’s attention and feel secure in her environment. She truly shines in calm, predictable settings and would be a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loyal, emotionally connected dog.
While our rescue does not specialize exclusively in special-needs animals, we are committed to setting Ellie up for success and ensuring she has continued guidance and support. We are seeking an adopter through that understands the value of dogs like Ellie and can help her continue toward a stable, permanent home.
Ellie is not a difficult dog. She does not require prior experience with deaf dogs—only patience, consistency, and a willingness to learn. She has so much love to give and deserves a home that sees her for who she is, not what she lacks.
