Welcome the sweetest gentle girl, Roberta.
Roberta is a 4 year old female Labrador Retriever Cross. She is a truly wonderful dog who has come such a long way despite a very difficult start in life. She has blossomed into a calm, affectionate dog who thrives in a loving home environment.
Everyone who meets her quickly sees what a special dog she is, and the hope is to find her another home where she will continue to be loved and cherished.
Sadly, black dogs like Roberta are often overlooked in rescue. They do not always get the attention they deserve simply because they are not fluffy or eye-catching in photographs.
But those who take the time to look beyond that quickly realise just how special they are. Roberta may be black on the outside, but inside she is absolutely full of diamonds and sparkles; her personality shines with warmth, kindness, and love.
In the home, Roberta is beautifully behaved. She is fully house trained, very calm, and settles very nicely indoors. She is not a barky dog and is perfectly content being left for a few hours if needed.
She has been fantastic with children—patient, gentle, and kind—and she is completely unfazed by cats, making her a wonderfully easy companion in a family setting.
Roberta enjoys her walks and loves getting out and about. She is friendly when meeting other dogs and enjoys making new doggy friends along the way. She is a sweet-natured soul with so much love to give and forms lovely bonds with the people around her.
One thing to note is that Roberta can be a bit of a “kangaroo” at times and has an impressive jump when she is feeling playful. Because of this, she will need a secure garden with good fencing so she can safely enjoy time outdoors.
Roberta is a very special girl—gentle, loving, and full of quiet affection—and she will make a truly wonderful companion for the lucky family who welcomes her into their home.
My name is Roberta. I am nearly 4 years old, and this is my story.
I do not remember being born, but I remember being small, cold, and scared. I was with my mum and my sisters in a place where dogs are often left behind and forgotten.
It is called a junkyard, but it is not really. It is just a piece of land filled with piles of old things, broken things, and dogs like me.
Two ladies own the land and visit us from time to time. They do not have much at all. No proper food, no medicine, no toys. But they do try their best to keep us safe.
Still, it is no place for a puppy to grow up. There was nothing to learn, nowhere to explore, and no one to show me what it means to be someone’s dog.
I grew up watching the world from behind a fence.
Sometimes, I climbed the piles of junk and jumped over, just to see what was out there. I wanted more. I wanted love. I wanted a life. But the world outside was scary and dangerous, and I was always brought back.
I stayed there, day after day, year after year.
Until one day, FAR came.
I saw you, and something inside me said, “This is my chance.” I walked right up to you, put my paws on your shoulders, and asked the only way I knew how: please take me with you. I have had enough of this life.
And you listened.

Now I am in foster in Buckinghamshire, and everything feels different. I have learned that humans can be gentle. That kind voices exist. That soft beds are real. That I am allowed to be loved.
They say I am beautiful and friendly. They say I am great with children and even cats. I just want to be close to you. To belong.
I do still like to climb—old habits from my old life—so I will need a very secure garden. But what I really want is not a garden.
It is a forever home.
A family who will never leave me behind. A place where I do not have to climb fences to find love. A place where I am finally home.
I have waited almost 4 years.
Please… could you be my forever?
Love,
Roberta
Her Story
Roberta was born in countryside fields with her sisters and was taken in by the people who own the junkyard. Her mum and one of her sisters are now adopted in the UK. Poor Roberta has been stuck in the junkyard for over three years.
On our last visit there, she truly did ask us to take her.
Roberta is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and tested negative for Brucellosis at the UK government testing laboratory.
