Luca is a ten month old Cocker Spaniel from Cyprus, and he is utterly gorgeous! He was brought into the local pound as a stray during hunting season and had no microchip, and no one came forward to claim him.
Given his breed and the time of year, it’s likely to assume that he may have been owned by a hunter or breeder, but there’s no way of knowing his exact background.
Thankfully, he’s now safe and sound with us, and we’re committed to finding him a much better future.
When Luca first arrived, he was withdrawn and very unsure of what was happening. He’s only been in the shelter a short time and is still settling in, but even in these early days his lovely nature is already very apparent.
He is a sensitive, observant and intelligent young dog with a very soft temperament. Despite his initial uncertainty, he warms to people quickly and as soon as he trusts you, he looks to you for reassurance.
On first meeting, it didn’t take long before he was sitting quietly in the lap of our Head of Adoptions, just happy to have made a friend.
Luca is very gentle and affectionate with people and shows a strong desire to bond. He enjoys attention, likes to stay close, and has a loyal, people-focused nature.
He makes friends easily and responds well to a gentle approach. He is a little spooked by fast, unpredictable movements, but we’re sure that as he gets more comfortable in his new environment, he’ll be okay.
Luca is friendly with other dogs and generally calm around them. From his kennel, he watches other dogs go out for walks and waits patiently for his turn.
He isn’t particularly vocal and approaches new dogs politely, gauging the situation before his tail wags a mile a minute. As he grows in confidence, we expect his playful side to grow.
Luca could live as the only dog or alongside another calm, friendly dog. Based on his temperament, he would be suitable to live with children, ideally aged six and over.

He hasn’t been tested with cats, and given his spaniel instincts, we would be cautious about rehoming him to a home with resident felines.
Being a spaniel, Luca will need an active, engaged home that understands the breed. He requires regular exercise, mental stimulation, opportunities to explore, and consistent basic training.
A home with access to a garden and a more rural setting would suit him well. While he does enjoy affection and we’re sure will readily accept snuggles on the sofa, he is not suited to a low-energy, laid-back lifestyle.
Exploring the world nose-first is where he’s at his happiest! With the right home, structure and time, he is going to grow into a such a loyal and devoted best friend.
